Our Mission

Blake’s Box Project exists to offer comfort, compassion, and tangible support to families grieving the loss of a college or university student.

Founded in memory of Blake Barclay, a Texas Tech student whose life continues to shape this work, Blake’s Box began with fallen Red Raiders. Our vision is to extend that same care to families at colleges and universities throughout Texas and beyond.

Each box is a tangible reminder that their student’s life mattered, their family is remembered, and they are not alone in their sorrow. Boxes include comfort items along with university-themed items that help honor the student’s connection to their campus community.

OUR STORY

Blake was a student at Texas Tech University with a bright future, a creative mind, and a heart that impacted everyone around him. After his passing, we experienced firsthand the profound grief that follows the loss of a child and how even small gestures of care can bring light into unimaginable darkness.

Blake’s Box Project was created in his memory to extend that same compassion to other families walking this difficult path.

Texas Tech is the birthplace. Blake is the reason. Compassion knows no campus boundaries.

About Blake

Our son Blake was a selfless and compassionate friend who made everyone feel welcome. He showed creativity and a passion for architecture from an early age and was thrilled to be accepted into the degree program at Texas Tech University’s Huckabee College of Architecture after completing his first year.

In the summer of 2024, Blake unexpectedly passed away after experiencing a seizure in his sleep in his campus dorm room, forever changing the lives of those who loved him. He left many friends behind and few strangers. We love him and miss him so incredibly much, but find comfort in knowing he is now learning architecture from the Creator and Designer of all things.

Blake’s Box Project carries his compassion forward, helping colleges and universities offer comfort to grieving families and reminding them that their children are gone, never forgotten.
